Mary "Betty" Ford went to be with her Lord and Savior, at the age of 87 on July 25, 2010.
Betty was born at home in Willows, California on September 15, 1922 to Ralph and Blanche McClurkin. She became the bride of Walter Ford of Durham, California in March of 1940. Betty and Walter made their home on their Dayton almond ranch where they raised their children. Betty is the beloved mother of seven children and grandmother to 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Craig Ford of Coal Valley, Illinois, Mark and Matt Ford of Chico, California, and Bruce Ford of Wasilla, Alaska. She is also survived by her daughters, Rebecca Wilson of Ramseur, North Carolina, and Susan Grissom of Chico, as well as her sister, Patricia Hatfield of Brookings, Oregon. Her passing was preceded by that of her husband, Walter in 1981 and her son, Gil Ford in 2009.
Betty took an active part in the family's almond farming, working the harvests with her husband and children. She enjoyed spending the summers camping with her family or enjoying her Philbrook Lake cabin. Betty was a gifted pastel artist and soprano soloist in several church choirs. She was one of the first members of the Durham Mid-Valley Baptist Church, where she worshiped for many years. A collector of old books, glassware, and antique dolls, she was referred to as Grandma Dolly or Grammie Doll by her admiring grandchildren. She served as a hospice volunteer on several occasions. Betty's Christian graciousness, hospitality, and unconditional love will be missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held at the Dayton Cemetery on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m
