Nashville Journal, 18 Apr 1884, page 5, column 2:
The widow of James McClurkin, who died near Oakdale on Tuesday, aged 81, was one of the first Covenanter settlers who came to this county from South Carolina in 1833 to 1836. She was kind a sympathetic; her services were always freely given to her neighbors in distress and sickness, and she possessed in an eminent degree the virtues of a true Christian woman.
