Suicide.
The sad information reached us on the afternoon of last Thursday that Mrs. Anna McClurken, wife of Mr. Andrew F. McClurken, who resides near Oakdale, had committed suicide. The particulars of this sad affair, as given to us, area as follows: Mrs. McClurken, for some five months or more, has not been of sound mind taking the affliction by spells and during that time the family carefully watched over her. But sometime early in the morning of the 13th inst she slipped from the house, and about 4 o'clock of that morning the family missed her. They then commenced a general search, and about daylight they found her shoes and two shawls that she had worn lying at the top of an old unused well in the field, which was located about one-fourth mile from the house. The well had been covered with plank which were weighted down with stone; but she removed a part of the coving and slipped herself down, feet foremost, into the well, which contained about ten feet of water. The deceased leaves four small children and a kind and affectionate husband, and many other relatives, to mourn the sad loss. Squire J. P. Hibbard (acting coroner) was called upon that morning to hold an inquest over the body, and a verdict in accordance with the above facts was given.
