Chico Enterprise-Record, Tuesday, September 8, 1981: "Walter Ford. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hall-Van Hook Funeral Chapel for Walter Leroy Ford, 66, of Dayton. Mr. Ford died Friday at a local hospital. He was born June 15, 1915, to Leroy and Maude Ford in Durham. He was reared and worked on the family almond farm and was employed by Pacific Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1979. He married Betty McClurkin of Willows on March 26, 1941, and had lived in Dayton for the past 36 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Mark of Chico, Matt and Gil of Dayton, Bruce of Durham and Craig of Boonville, Ark.; two daughters, Susan Grissom of Chico and Becky Wilson of Highpoint, N.C.; his mother, Maude Ford of Durham; two sisters, Vivan Pyle and Lorraine Hutton, both of Durham; and 14 grandchildren. The Rev. Dave Sweet of the Calvary Chapel of Paradise and the Rev. Paul England of the Church of Durham will conduct the services. Regina Hoff will offer special musical selections. Casketbearers will be Gilbert Shallenberger, Rex Welch, Eric Hansen, Lloyd Hutton, Greg Hutton, Jimmy Pyle, Doug Scott and John Robley. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel. Those who wish may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Dayton Cemetery Fund in care of the chapel."
