February 16, 1916 - March 20, 2010
Affectionately known as "Dottie" to her family and friends, she was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Frank and Lois Jennings. Moved to Glendale in 1929 where she met her future husband, William Worth Kemps (aka "Bud") at Hoover High School; they were married in 1935. They had three children, Carol Anne Fox, William Worth Kemps, Jr., and Douglas Henry Kemps (married to Rochelle Kemps). Dottie enjoyed her many years of community service providing leadership to the Community Chest, Glendale Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Encore, the Hollywood Bowl Women's Committee, the Burbank First United Methodist Church, and the Women's Committee for KCET.
After the children were grown, she went to Glendale College and UCLA earning her B.A. degree in Sociology in 1969. In 1973, she was invited to be the first Director of Volunteer Operations for KCET, Channel 28, where she spent twenty wonderful years. She retired in 1993. When Bud passed away in 2002, they had celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage and lived in their north Allen Avenue home for sixty-five years. During her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and being with her friends in PEO.
She leaves behind eight grandchildren (Aaron Fox, Mimi Fox, Joshua Fox, Benjamin Fox, William Worth Kemps III, John Kemps, Alison Kemps, and Michael Kemps) and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by her younger brother, Dr. Walter G. Jennings, of El Dorado Hills, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17th, at 3:00 p.m. at Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, 26438 S. Crenshaw Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates, with a reception to follow at the home of Michael and Gemma Kemps in Palos Verdes Estates. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to KCET or Rolling Hills United Methodist Church.
