Text:   Samuel Henry Kemps.
Samuel Henry Kemps was born in Philadelphia, Pa., March 27, 1843, and died in Oakdale April 2, 1921, aged 78 years and six days. He came with his parents in his 'teens to Illinois. He confessed his faith in Christ by uniting with the Unity Reformed Presbyterian church, New Side. He was married to Miss Clara A. McClurkin, Feb. 25, 1869. During the spring of this same year he transferred his membership to the then Elkhorn, now, Oakdale, Reformed Presbyterian church, of which he was a member until the time of his •death. His wife, six children, eleven grandchildren survive him. One son, Clarence Edward, died at the age of one and one half years. He was the last of his family to pass into the Great Beyond, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mc-Clarkin, preceding him, June 24th of last year.
Beside the devoted companion of more than fifty-two years of wedded life, the following children mourn their loss and cherish his memory: Albert R., Nashville, Luther J., Chicago., Will H., Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Mae Bell Kirkpatrick Oakdale, Mrs. Clara Ethel Boyle, Oakdale, and Mrs. Edna A. Smith, Cutler.
Over thirty-five years ago Mr. Kemps became a victim of asthma and most of the time since has suffered much from it. For some years he has been an invalid and bore patiently his affliction. A favorite Bible verse of his was, "Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you." His faith was fixed upon the Lord Jesus Christ and death to him, we, believe, was his departure into that eternal life which Christ promised his own. "Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord."
