Marsha Jane Kirkpatrick Wilder
Marsha Jane Kirkpatrick Wilder passed away on February 14, 2015 after a long and brave fight against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and complications of Diverticulitis. She was guided to her heavenly home by the angels who had protected her for her entire life.
Marsha was born on March 12, 1943 at Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois, PA. She moved at the age of two to Muskogee, Oklahoma and had always declared that city as her hometown.
During Marsha’s life, she willingly moved to and lived in several cities in support of her husband’s career including Muskogee, Houston, TX, DuBois, PA, Birmingham, AL, Chicago, IL, and finally to Charlotte, NC. She made friends in each city, most still considered very close. She was a strong supporter of Newcomers’ Clubs everywhere she lived. While in DuBois, PA, she served as Children’s Librarian for several years and also volunteered at the local hospital gift shop and grill. She was an avid bowler and was a membaer of several leagues, the last being Raintree League. Marsha loved to garden and her flowers were the envy of the neighborhood.
To many, Marsha appeared to be a solitary woman. She did not bother others with her problems but came to the aid of her friends whenever she was needed. She was a traditional person who was very interested in her ancestry and its history. Her fifth great- grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War and is buried in Chester, SC. She proudly displayed heirlooms from past generations including crocheted doilies, dish towels, quilts, handmade furniture, etc. She loved to travel and she still displayed a printer’s tray filled with mementos of all the places she had visited during her life. .
She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Larry of Charlotte; a brother Roger K. Kirkpatrick of Dallas TX; a daughter, Lisa Lockey, her husband Mike, and granddaughters Bethany and Hannah of Gibsonville, NC; son Patrick Wilder, his wife Teresa and grandsons Collin and Alex of Naperville, IL; and son Jason Wilder, his wife Amy, and granddaughters Rachel, Riley, and Reagan of Charlotte, NC.
Honorary pallbearers are John Yager of Deerfield, IL, Steve Dobbins of Charlotte, Dave Moulthrop of DuBois, PA, and Bob Edwards of Charlotte.
Marsha was a devout believer in God, our family’s strength, inspiration, and leader of conscious thought. She will be missed but referred to often and listened to from her heavenly home.
Memorials may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC and officiated by Pastor Tim Baldinger. T.H. Robertson Funeral & Cremation Service is serving the family www.throbertson.com.
