His parents were:

George Miller died in 1867. The 1870 Census shows Albert, at age 6, living in St. Louis with his mother and three siblings (Oscar, Pauline and Emily Miller). Later in 1870, Albert’s mother, Louisa, married Patrick Ryan. Patrick and Louisa had four children (Louisa, Thomas, John and Julia Ryan).
Albert shows up, at age 16, in the first enumeration of the 1880 Census, along with his mother, step-father, and three younger siblings (Thomas, John and Julia Ryan). Albert was employed as a painter. In the second enumeration of the 1880 Census, Albert was mis-reported as Albert Ryan, age 16. He shows up with his mother, step-father, older brother (Oscar Miller) and three younger siblings. He was working in a lard (?) factory.
Albert’s step-father, Patrick Ryan, died on December 5, 1881. Albert, undoubtedly, provided the financial support for the family after Patrick Ryan’s death. There is considerable confusion about May’s first name. The 1900 Census identifies her as Allie J.; the 1910 Census as Marsella M.; her Death Certificate as Manzella M.; the cemetery as Maucella; and Albert’s Death Certificate as May.
